In keeping with the national drive to fight the Covid-19 effects initiated by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, and in application of the Sovereign's high instructions, the Foundation has mobilized for the organization of the 21st edition of the Ramadan food support operation. An essential mobilization, in this period of the holy month of Ramadan, so that national solidarity continues to provide help and comfort to vulnerable people and families living in precarious situations, and to reduce the socio-economic effects of the pandemic.
In view of this unprecedented context and in accordance with the directives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, the Foundation has strengthened its resources to expand the coverage of households receiving food support. The overall number of households has been increased to 600,000 (i.e. 100,000 additional households compared to the previous edition), for an overall investment of 85 million dirhams (purchase of foodstuffs and logistics). The increase in the number of beneficiary households has concerned all the provinces of the Kingdom and was applied according to criteria related to population size, housing area (rural/urban) and the level of poverty and vulnerability. Thus, three million people, particularly the elderly, widows and people with disabilities from poor and rural areas, will be supplied with food through this large-scale outreach action. The basket, made up of seven essential products (10 kg of flour, 4 kg of sugar, 250 g of tea, 1 kg of lentils, 1 kg of vermicelli, 5 L of oil and 800 g of tomato concentrate), represents a solidarity aid which aims at alleviating the food needs related to the period of Ramadan.
Organized with the financial support of the Ministry of the Interior, the General Directorate of Local Communities and the Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs, and with the assistance of the National Mutual Aid, the Ministry of Health, the Royal Gendarmerie, the social works of the FAR (DGSS) (Royal Moroccan armed forces – Directorate General of Special Services), the National Promotion, the Auxiliary Forces as well as the provincial and local authorities, this 21st edition of Ramadan operation, will follow the same implementation and control mechanism deployed at the local and provincial committees level. On the field, they monitor the distribution centers supply, control food, identify beneficiaries and hand over food.
In this period of lockdown, the Foundation and its partners have had to adapt the distribution system to ensure the safety of the population. The distribution will be carried out in compliance with health and protection instructions, according to the protocol and procedures adapted by the local authorities. It will be carried out by the caïdats within the framework of local committees that will inform the heads of the beneficiary families and organize the delivery of food aid directly to the households, door-to-door.
