HM King Mohammed VI launched in Benslimane province (Casablanca-Settat Region), the construction works of an addictology center, a solidarity-based project that reflects the High royal care for young people and His determination to protect them from any deviancy or social hazard.
Carried out by the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, this center, the first of its kind in Benslimane province, is an integral part of the national program to combat addictive behavior, implemented since 2010, in accordance with the High Royal instructions by the Foundation in partnership with the ministries of Health and the Interior.
This national program aims to protect young people from the use of psychoactive substances, improve the quality of care for addicts, particularly drug users, and encourage the involvement of civil society and social departments in addiction issues. It also helps the families of the beneficiaries to cope with the harmful consequences of addictive behavior.
Like those carried out by the Foundation in Casablanca (within the Ibn Rochd University Hospital and the Sidi Moumen neighborhood), Rabat, Oujda, Nador, Marrakech, Tetouan, Tangier, Fez and Agadir, or those in progress in Meknes, Tangier (Mghogha neighborhood) and Marrakech (El Mellah neighborhood), the center will develop awareness and prevention actions against drug use, provide medical and social care for people suffering from addictive behavior, and promote the effective involvement of families in prevention actions.
It is also meant to promote the social reintegration of the persons concerned, as well as the supervision and training of associations in the field of risk reduction, notably through the implementation and support on the ground of young drug users and those at risk of addiction.
The facility, which will be built on a 3,000 m2 area within 12 months, will include, inter alia, a social support and risk reduction center housing a convivial space, rooms for physical and artistic expression, a sports field and an office for associations. A privileged tool for care, awareness, diagnosis, prevention and psycho-social support, this facility, which mobilizes investments of around 5 million dirhams, will also comprise a medical center composed of treatment rooms, consultations in general medicine, addictology, psychiatry, a space for group psychotherapy, rooms for methadone users, a nursing station and a pharmacy.
This center is the result of a partnership between the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, the ministry of Health and the Casablanca-Settat Regional Council. It will be managed by a local association specializing in drug risk reduction.
The creation of this facility, with high social added value, reinforces the actions carried out by the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity in the Casablanca-Settat Region, whose main objective is to support and protect vulnerable populations.
