The 2024 edition of Operation Marhaba ended on Sunday September 15, after three and a half months of activity which mobilized stakeholders and record attendance during the summer period.
Operation Marhaba, chaired by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God help him, had an exceptional season this year, due to the record number of visitors and very positive assessments regarding the progress of the arrival and departure phases.
The welcome systems saw significant levels of arrivals and passage through the various air and sea transit points by our compatriots residing abroad.
At the end of the Operation, total arrivals reached 3,761,589, which represents an unprecedented increase of 18.84% compared to the 2023 season. From the start of the Operation, which coincided with the celebration of Eid Adha the tone was positive. The upward trend continued during arrivals linked to the summer holidays (first two weeks of July and August) with record daily peaks which reached 70,000 people. The same scenario was seen during the departure phase. Daily peaks were recorded between August 21 and 31, and on August 28 the level surpassed 78,000 departures.
The strong mobilization of the partner organisations of the Operation, in particular the port and airport authorities, the Customs and National Security Services as well as the transport companies, made it possible to ensure good transit conditions and a virtual fluidity of traffic during peak periods. The special measures and arrangements adopted by each stakeholder greatly contributed to the smooth running of the Operation. In particular, the measures implemented at the port level (which sees 53% of arrivals): corridors dedicated to MRE, specific assistance for the elderly, pregnant women and people with disabilities, installation of regulation areas (Bab Sebta, Port of Nador and Bab Melillia) and a coach regulation system at the Marhaba Méditerranée Rest Area during the return phase (from August 22 to September 8). These measures made it possible to process 12,328 passengers who took 218 coaches and 63 minibuses in transit through the Tanger Med Port.
As for the social and medical support project, managed directly by the Foundation, it saw the deployment of 1,486 people, including social workers and medical teams who were the main interface with members of the incoming community. This year, the operation also saw the introduction of a mobile tele-medicine case. This featured a complete on-board tool allowing consultations and specialized diagnoses to be delivered to the medical assistance units in the ports of Tanger Med, Tanger Ville and Nador (entry points which recorded almost a third of total arrivals). The results of the 24 Marhaba reception sites show a total of 155,907 people who benefited from medical-social support and assistance services. Specifically, 27,011 cases required administrative and legal intervention and 15,244 cases required Customs services intervention, 13,714 children and adults were treated medically (first aid, emergency interventions and medical evacuations) and 1,628 individuals received transport assistance.
